Assistant Controller – Milpitas, CA

1. July 2025

XL Industries has engaged Tower Consultants Search Group to conduct a retained search for its Assistant Controller, who joins their financial leadership team.  This strategic leader will serve as both an operational expert and internal financial consultant, supporting XL’s commitment to excellence across accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and process optimization.  The successful candidate will oversee critical accounting functions, including general ledger management, work-in-progress (WIP) accounting, consolidated reporting across multiple entities and business units, and strict adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is highly valued.

This position requires 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with 5+ years in leadership capacities. Preferred industries: construction/adjacent, manufacturing, and energy, including Third-Party Logistics operations.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise with sophisticated financial systems including Hyperion Financial Management (HFM), Prophix, Power Bi and Excel, while Vista Viewpoint and SmartSheets experience is advantageous. The role demands proficiency in managing complex data analysis, variance reporting, and business insights delivery, while working with the Controller and key leaders to drive operational efficiency through process improvement initiatives.

Uniquely, this role best suits a dual skillset, combining oversight for day-to-day accounting operations and team leadership capabilities with advanced technical expertise, financial reporting leadership, and compliance oversight responsibilities.  The successful candidate will directly manage three accounting professionals while ensuring comprehensive financial process management and strategic business partnership.  The Assistant Controller will partner closely with Finance, Operations, and senior leadership to ensure financial processes maintain accuracy, compliance, and strategic alignment with business objectives.

This hybrid role offers flexibility for remote work, while requiring on-site presence for critical meetings and initiatives.  The position reports directly to the Corporate Controller and represents a high-priority search, given upcoming financial reporting cycles and audit requirements. Master’s  degree or CPA designation is strongly preferred, along with proven experience in construction project accounting, work-in-progress management, and manufacturing cost accounting methodologies.

The base salary range for this position is $140,000 to $160,000 annually, with total compensation including an annual bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.
